Stop the Abuse

April 18, 2016 | Gunner Steele

Do you feel sorry for this woman? Her name is Samantha. When she was young, she was involved in an abusive relationship. Her boyfriend extorted money from her, physically abused her, and made her live in constant fear every day. Eventually, he was thrown in prison for domestic violence charges against Samantha.

Now most people would feel sorry for Samantha at this point. I certainly feel sorry for her. No woman should ever have to live that way. Its a terrible shame. But I changed my mind, and here's why...

One year later, her boyfriend was released from prison and guess who came to pick him up? That's right—Samantha. And within 1 week, he was back to abusing her. Nothing changed. Within 3 more weeks, he was arrested again on more domestic violence charges and thrown back in prison. This time he was there for 2 years.

Then guess what happened? When he got out—Samantha picked him up again. This happened 5 more times over the next 10 years. And every time Samantha's abusive boyfriend got out of prison, she was there to take him back again and again. And every time, without fail, he abused her.

Admittedly, I felt sorry for Samantha at first. But after a while, I stopped. Because after a while, its hard to feel sorry for someone who intentionally invites her abuser back into her life—even though she is fully aware of the fact that he will abuse her. He has not changed. He will not change. Nothing will change.

If she wants a better life, she must abandon this loser forever. It's really simple, folks.

Remarkably, Samantha's story is not uncommon. In fact, it is more common than you'd imagine. The truth is that many men who are released from prison after a domestic violence charge are welcomed back by the very women they abused.

And most rational people scratch their heads in bewilderment over it. How can this be? How stupid do you have to be to do that? That's what they ask themselves.

But not surprisingly, most Americans don't realize that they are Samantha. They are victims of abuse and violence and every 2 years they invite their abusers to once again lord over them and force them into a life of fear.

You may not want to admit it, but its true. If you don't believe that the Federal Government abuses the American people and puts us in fear, let me ask you two questions:

1. Did you file your taxes last week? I'm not a tax protestor, and I always pay my taxes, but what would happen to you if you didn't? What would be your initial gut reaction if you got a call from the IRS? Or if IRS agents knocked on your front door? Exactly. You live in fear, my friend.

Just last week, I was on a ship in a foreign country. Sitting in front of me were a couple of American women with a southern accent. Since we were out of the country, I was curious as to where they were from (since they obviously weren't "locals"). So I asked them. They told me they were from Texas. We chatted for a bit and they told me they were on vacation. I let them know I was there on business.

Then one of them said, "Well then you can write this trip off your taxes as a business expense." I asked her if she would do the same. She said, "Hell no! I'm terrified of the IRS. I don't f**k with those @$$***es." (Please forgive the colorful language, but that's what she said.)

And the sad reality is that her response represents the majority of Americans. Simply put, Americans live in fear of their government. Its supposed to be the other way around.

2. Do you know who the number one thief in America is? Its not Bernie Madoff. Its not Al Capone. And its not street gangs, Mexicans, Blacks, or otherwise. Nope. Its the Federal Government. The fact is that in the last year, American government entities "legally stole" more assets from American citizens through civil asset forfeiture than all of the burglars and thieves in the entire country combined.

Yup. How do you like that?

They abuse you. They beat you down. They extort money from you. They force you to live in fear. And then every 2 years, you welcome them back into your lives.

Sorry Samantha, I don't feel sorry for you anymore. You deserve what you get. If you don't wholeheartedly reject your wicked boyfriend, your life will never change. He has a reputation for a reason.

Politicians, whether they are brand new, "senior," from the outside, from the "beltway," or whatever—it doesn't matter. They don't change. They will always be who they've always been. You see—reputation matters when it comes to leadership. Because people are going to do what they've always done.

I want you to remember this every time you walk into that voting booth and vote for the same people that you think are "nice guys" and "good people" even though your life is still lived in fear and abuse.

Finally, consider this—there is an old saying that says that "Money and power corrupt people." I personally do not believe that. Experience has taught me that money and power only magnify who people already are.

Until next Monday, I'm yours in Freedom
